Whitefield still continues to be one of the most sought after places in Bangalore today. The scene was not like what it is today, twenty-five years back. In the early 1990s, among the traditionally demarcated areas of Bangalore were Brigade Road, M.G. Road, and Commercial Street which were known for corporate offices and shopping centres. Although today, Whitefield is overcrowded with offices and IT companies there are five major campuses that hold the majority of the IT companies in Whitefield. They are International Technology Park Bangalore, Export Promotion Industrial Park, Brigade Tech Park, RMZ, and Brook field.

There are many IT majors present at Whitefield like TCS, SAP, iGATE, Unisys, Huawei, Perot Systems, Oracle, Tesco, Shell, GM, GE and a whole load of others. Mostly, the companies present here are BPOs, LPOs, software companies, and core IT companies. Each of the parks has a plethora of different national and multi-national companies with Brook Field having more than 100 companies and RMZ having over 50 companies on the campus.

Today, Whitefield is one of the most in-demand places due to the surge in preference by the IT workforce. According to a report by, there were 28,500 new residential units that came up in the last five years in the Whitefield area. The maximum number of launches happened in the period between 2013 to 2015, which accounts for 83% of the new launches in this time period. After 2016, the new launches were witnessed to have dropped significantly owing to the huge backlog of unsold stock and the impact of demonetization, Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), and GST.
